Yet another record year for whitefish exports

Norway exported 40,000 tonnes of shellfish valued at NOK 1.7 billion in 2017. This is a decrease in volume of 2 per cent and a reduction in value of 7 per cent from 2016.
Norway exported 838,000 tonnes of pelagic fish worth NOK 7.7 billion in 2017. This is an increase in volume of 24 per cent and a decrease in value of 1 per cent from 2016.
Norway exported salmon worth NOK 64.7 billion in 2017. This is an increase of 5 per cent or NOK 3.4 billion compared with 2016, and it is the highest export value ever for salmon. Measured in product weight, Norway exported 1 million tonnes of salmon in 2017, which is 2.8 per cent or 27,000 tonnes more than in 2016.
Norway exported 286,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 9 billion in November. Volume increased by 25 per cent, while export values remained on par with November last year. Year to date, Norway has exported 2.4 million tonnes of seafood worth NOK 86.5 billion. Export volumes have increased by 6 per cent, and value has increased by 4 per cent or NOK 3.3 billion compared to the same period last year.
Due to a significant reduction in funds, The Norwegian Seafood Council has to reduce its global market investments in 2018. As a consequence, the NSCs operations in the Indian market will be restructured, and delivered directly from the headquarters of the Norwegian Seafood Council from spring 2018.
Norway exported 275,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 9.1 billion in October. Volumes were down by 5 per cent, while the total value of exports fell by 3 per cent or NOK 281 million compared with October last year. Year to date, Norway has exported 2.1 million tonnes of seafood with a value of NOK 77.6 billion.
Despite a decline in seafood exports in September, Norway has exported 1.8 million tonnes of seafood with a value of NOK 69 billion so far this year. This is a volume increase of 3 per cent, and a value increase of 6 per cent or NOK 3.7 billion measured against the same period last year.
August was a good month for Norwegian seafood exports. Norway exported 165,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 7.5 billion in August. Volume was 2 per cent higher, while export value increased by 7 per cent or NOK 501 million compared to August last year.
Norway exported 138 000 tonnes of seafood at a value of NOK 6,7 billion in July. Volumes were 4 percent lower, yet the export value increased by 2 percent, or NOK 115 million, compared to July 2016.
Hans Frode Kielland Asmyhr (47) has been appointed the new country representative for the Norwegian Seafood Council(NSC) in the UK. He will take up his role from 1 September.
Exports of whitefish have never before had a greater value in the first six months of the year. The growth is due primarily to conventional products, as well as fresh and frozen whole whitefish.
The Norwegian Seafood Council works with the Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture industries to develop markets for Norwegian seafood through local market intelligence, market development and reputational risk management. The Seafood Council is headquartered in Tromsø and maintains local representatives in twelve of Norway's most important international markets. The Norwegian seafood industry finances the activities of the Norwegian Seafood Council via a tariff on all Norwegian seafood exports. The Norwegian Seafood Council is a public company owned by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.
